Speed work you can actually see
Cycliq sell camera bundles worldwide, and their UK and US stores had picked up the weight that any store carries after a couple of years of growth: apps added, scripts layered on, images that were heavier than they needed to be. Everything worked. It just felt slower than it should.
What we did
There is no single button that makes a Shopify store fast, whatever an app tells you. So we did the unglamorous version: measured what each page was actually loading, found the specific things costing the most, and dealt with them one at a time. Scripts that ran when they did not need to. Images shipped far larger than they rendered. Third-party code doing work that could wait until after the page was usable.
The result
The stores got faster in the way that matters, the pages became usable sooner, which is what a customer actually feels. Because the work was targeted at the real culprits rather than a generic checklist, the wins held instead of drifting back a fortnight later.
What to take from it
If your store feels slow, resist the app that promises to fix speed in one click. Speed is not one problem, it is a pile of small specific ones, and the only way through is to measure what your pages load and work down the list. The fix for your store is almost never the fix for someone else’s.
